Announcing Keynote Speaker Ferd Scheepers
We are thrilled to announce Ferd Scheepers (ING) as our second keynote speaker for the 2017 edition of Flink Forward Berlin! Ferd is the global Chief Information Architect of ING. Ferd has been driving ING’s journey to becoming a data driven company for the last 4 years. He has published on Data Lakes, and is a frequent speaker on both major vendor conferences, and on open source summits. Currently he is championing the Apache Atlas open metadata initiative.
Introducing Keynote Speaker Xiaowei Jiang
We proudly present our first keynote speaker for Flink Forward Berlin 2017: Xiaowei Jiang, Senior Director at Alibaba. He leads the StreamCompute Platform for AliCloud. The platform provides the real time data processing both internally and externally. Previously, he worked as Tech Lead at Facebook and Principal Engineer at Microsoft SQL Server.

Stephan Ewen is PMC member and one of the original creators of Apache Flink, and co-founder and CTO of data Artisans. He holds a Ph.D. from the Berlin University of Technology.

Matt Zimmer (@zimmermatt) has been creating software for 17 years. His current role is Senior Software Engineer on Netflix’s real-time data infrastructure team. This is Matt’s third tour of duty at Netflix. Previous tours include roles on the Playback Data Systems and Streaming Server teams. A notable feature he was involved in was Streaming Profiles, ending the scourge of children’s shows littering the movie lists of parents around the globe. Engagements prior to Netflix include StumbleUpon, Intuit, Sightline Systems, and EMC. Matt’s formal training is in music and he played trumpet professionally for ten years before teaching himself to program.

Patrick Gunia is an Engineering Manager at ResearchGate where he is responsible for the statistics infrastructure and the numbers it produces for internal and external usage. His special interest are streaming related technologies and how they can be integrated into an hybrid ecosystem consisting of real-time, near-realtime, and batch use cases.

Jörg is a software engineer at Mesosphere in Hamburg. In his previous life he implemented distributed and in memory databases and conducted research in the Hadoop and Cloud area. His speaking experience includes various Meetups, international conferences, and lecture halls.
Robert Metzger

Robert Metzger is a PMC member at the Apache Flink project and a co-founder and an engineering lead at data Artisans. He is the author of many Flink components including the Kafka and YARN connectors. Robert studied Computer Science at TU Berlin and worked at IBM Germany and at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose. He is a frequent speaker at conferences such as the Hadoop Summit, ApacheCon and meetups around the world.

Flavio Junqueira leads the Pravega team at DellEMC. He is interested in various aspects of distributed systems, including distributed algorithms, concurrency, and scalability. Previously, he held an engineering position with Confluent and research positions with Yahoo Research and Microsoft Research. Flavio is an active contributor of Apache projects, such as Apache ZooKeeper (PMC and committer) and Apache BookKeeper (PMC and committer), and he co-authored the O’Reilly ZooKeeper book. He holds a PhD degree in computer science from the University of California, San Diego.

Steffen is working as a Solutions Architect at Amazon Web services. He has a strong background in stream processing and real-time analytics. Before joining AWS, he completed a doctorate (PhD equivalency) in computer science focusing on complex event processing.
Shaoxuan Wang

Shaoxuan is a Senior Manager at Alibaba, primarily working on the development of Alibaba StreamCompute Platform. Prior to Alibaba, he was a senior software engineer working on social graph and core infrastructure at Facebook. Shaoxuan received his Ph.D degree from UC San Diego.

Dr Lublinsky is an architect at Lightbend’s FDP Fast Data Platform responsible for integration of modern streaming engines into cohesive execution environment and designing modern streaming applications leveraging platform’s capabilities. Boris has over 25 years experience in enterprise and technical architecture and software engineering. He has over 80 technical publications in different magazines. Boris is also a an active member of OASIS SOA RM committee, coauthor of Applied SOA: Service-Oriented Architecture and Design Strategies and Professional Hadoop Solutions books.

Gyula is a developer in the Streaming Platform team at King, working hard on shaping the future of real-time data processing. This includes researching, developing and sharing awesome streaming technologies. Gyula grew up in Budapest where he first started working on distributed stream processing and later became a core contributor to the Apache Flink project. Among his everyday funs and challenges, you find endless video game battles, super spicy foods and thinking about stupid bugs at night. Gyula has been a speaker at numerous big data related conferences and meetups, talking about stream processing technologies and use-cases.

David Rodriguez is a Security Researcher and Data Scientist at Cisco Umbrella. He has co-authored multiple pending patents with Cisco in distributed machine learning applications centered around deep learning and behavioral analytics. He has an MA in Mathematics from San Francisco State University and previously worked at Location Labs by Avast and Esurance. David has spoken at the SAI Computing Conference 2016 and Data Science meetups in the Bay Area. He’s scheduled to speak at Black Hat and Virus Bulletin in 2017.

A TASTE OF THE FLINK UNIVERSE
Two days of conference. One day of training. More than 350 attendees from all over the globe, over 40 international speakers, 3 stages and lots of squirrels – At Flink Forward Berlin 2016 we’ve enjoyed three days full of exciting training sessions, keynotes, technical talks and panels. It was the second Flink Forward organized by data Artisans and we’re looking forward to the next conferences in San Francisco and Berlin.
